9 Movie Franchises That Completely Spiraled Out Of Control

4. Jaws

At the end of the original Jaws, the shark is killed, everything is completely resolved, and there€™s no need for a sequel. But there was a sequel, and in Jaws 2, Amity Island starts getting attacked by a shark again. Somehow, the Mayor still doesn€™t believe that everyone€™s in danger, even after the entire town was attacked by a killer shark just a few years ago. Jaws 3D follows Brody€™s son, because there was no way they were getting Roy Scheider to do another one of these. In this movie, a shark somehow makes it into SeaWorld. Throw in some truly awful 3D effects and that€™s basically the entire movie. In Jaws: The Revenge, Brody has died of a heart attack that is blamed on his fear of sharks. Remember the first movie ending on the victory of Brody conquering his fears? Well nevermind that! Brody€™s wife Ellen decides to move, and the shark from Amity Island literally follows her from the United States to the Bahamas. Why not just move somewhere that's nowhere near the ocean? Who knows. It€™s also highly implied that these sharks are related and intentionally targeting the Brodys out of revenge. In the original film, the success is in how scary it would be to have a shark attacking people at the beach. What if this happened to you? What would you do? It may not be totally realistic, but it's compelling. But by the fourth movie, the shark is basically just an unstoppable supernatural force on the level of Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees, targeting this one family, following them from place to place and even roaring like a dinosaur. Any fear at all is completely gone.
