2. Spider-Man
Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films gave an added meaning to the classic TV theme; when we hear does whatever a spider can, none of us expected it to be taken quite so literally. Completely subverting the original mythology, Peter Parkers spider bite also gives the ability to shoot real spider webs from his wrists. Teenage allegory galore. What made this decision so ridiculous is that Rami kept some elements of the original webbing. Classically, Spider-Man used to used two fingers to hit the switch on the mechanism. The film adaptation kept the movement, but lost all the sense of it; if its natural, why on Earth does Peter have to make a silly gesture to get it to work? Fans were, understandably, a little bit put out. Not only was it messing with the characters key design, but it felt like an unnecessary change. My guess it was done to allow for Tobey Maguire to have as smooth and tight a suit as possible. Thankfully, the rest the film was not only faithful, but awesome. The Amazing Spider-Man returned the classic web mechanisms, but irritated fans even more by being boring.
