9 Movie Franchises That Trade Quality For Enjoyment

8. Star Trek (2009 - Onwards)

Paramount PicturesParamount PicturesParamount PicturesBest film: Star Trek Most enjoyable: Star Trek Into Darkness J.J. Abrams managed to breathe life back into the Star Trek films with the excellent 2009 film. It was well acted, funny, beautifully shot and had an amazing score and decent script. It also successfully rebooted the franchise without paying a disservice to the older movies. 2013€™s Into Darkness upped the ante and brought a film that moved along at warp speed and was hugely enjoyable. Where the film falters is when it pays homage to the old movies. Where in the first film this was subtle and neatly executed, Into Darkness€™ allusions to Wrath of Khan feel obvious and contrived. Kirk€™s sacrifice towards the end of the film conjures groans rather than the emotion it should do. Those flaws aside, Into Darkness is a joy to watch from the first scene to the excellently executed space jump. It€™s the sheer pace and quality of the action that makes this movie more fun, if not better, than the last.
