9 Movie Franchises That Trade Quality For Enjoyment

5. Mission Impossible

Paramount PicturesBest film: Mission Impossible Most enjoyable: Ghost Protocol Brian De Palma€™s original Mission Impossible generally gets a bad rap for being convoluted, not really making sense and for pissing off fans of the TV series by making the main character a traitor. Actually, the first Mission Impossible is a really good espionage thriller. It€™s filled with double-crossing agents, beautifully executed spectacle and one hell of a catchy theme tune €“ again taken from the TV show. The follow-ups tend to move away from the espionage aspect and put a greater emphasis on action. Ghost Protocol is the most successful in this respect. The scaling of the building in Dubai is a breathtaking action sequence, but what€™s more €“ it€™s littered with comic relief from Simon Pegg€™s character. To make a stunt tense and funny at the same is would feel out of place in the serious De Palma original, but the tone of this film is so far from the original that it can get away with it. No film that blows up the Kremlin asks you to take it that seriously. Ghost Protocol is bags of fun, making it the highest grossing Mission Impossible, but not the best.
