9 Movie Heroes & Villains That Didn't Know Each Other Existed
4. Mary Poppins & Mr. Dawes Sr. - Mary Poppins
The hero of Mary Poppins is, naturally, the titular magical nanny (Julie Andrews) herself, and while some might argue the film doesn't really have a card-carrying villain at all, the next best thing is surely Mr. Dawes Sr. (Dick Van Dyke).
Dawes Sr. is the elderly bank director who ultimately fires Mr. Banks (David Tomlinson) for, in his eyes, inadvertently causing a run on his precious bank.
Yet Mary and Dawes Sr. never actually cross paths in the movie, and more to the point, are never shown to even be aware of each others' existence either.
Though Mary and Mr. Banks speak at length throughout the film, it's never specifically about his boss, and so we're left to conclude that hero and villain are each doing their thing in the world without knowing who the other is - all while being opposing forces in Mr. Banks' life.
All the same, Dawes Sr. certainly feels Mary's magic shortly before he dies, floating into the air and all.
