The Star Trek Kelvin Timeline is a bit of a strange one, since it remakes the original series TV show but also simultaneously acts as a new prequel to the Next Generation movies, but that's not unprecedented since it's exactly what the X-Men movie franchise has done.

What's slightly more confusing about it is the fact that despite the movie being a reboot and introducing a new cast who look nothing like the ones from the TV show, one of the originals is ported in in the shape of Leonard Nimoy's Spock Prime. It's almost like his character managed to not only exist outside of the timeline within the film's time travel plot, but also jumped through the reboot portal at the same time.

Given the majesty of Nimoy's performance, there was no problem accepting it.
