9 Movie Reboots That Were Actually Just Ripoffs

8. The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man Here's a reboot that I was anxious about from minute one; Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man certainly had the potential to be a great continuation of the Spider-Man story, but the notion of going back to the drawing board on a franchise that only began a decade earlier seemed tacky to me from the outset. Low and behold, the film released, and as I expected, the first hour of it was utterly, utterly pointless, raking over the same origin story plot points we've already seen for absolutely no reason at all; we all remember this - how's about breezing through this in a credits montage and then just getting to the new, interesting stuff? Instead, Peter doesn't get his suit for an hour, and despite a tonal change towards slightly darker territory, scenes such as Uncle Ben's death essentially feel like they've been copy and pasted from Sam Raimi's film. It would have been more worthwhile just making Spider-Man 4 with the new cast and crew; instead, they basically rushed this one out because the option was going to expire, and Sony didn't want the rights reverting. Fingers crossed that now the foundation has been put down, the in-production sequel will be vastly superior.
