9 Movie Scenes You Didn't Know Had A Guest Director

6. Klingons Dying - Star Trek: Into Darkness

Not everyone is a massive fan of Star Trek director J. J. Abrams, but it’s clear that he absolutely loves what he does for a living. Arguably that was never more evident than his time directing Star Trek: Into Darkness.

While the second Star Trek movie was filming at Sony’s studios, Abrams heard that his friend Edgar Wright (director of Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World) was due in the studio for a meeting, and so asked him to visit the set.

There was no reason for Wright to visit, other than ‘wouldn’t it be cool to see Star Trek being filmed’. Of course, with Wright and Abrams as obsessively geeky as each other, this soon became ‘wouldn’t it be cool to actually direct Star Trek’.

While Abrams focussed on the main scene, Wright shot about 32 frames (amounting to a single shot) of Klingons dying on Kronos during Khan’s capture and arrest. Not much, but he probably had a blast doing it.

‘I was late for the meeting’, Wright admitted when discussing his short stint as a Star Trek director.
