9 Movie Sequels That Just Got Cancelled

8. Hellboy 2

There was a lot of optimism in the air leading up to 2019's Hellboy reboot, with an R-rating and a jacked-up David Harbour promising something a lot different from the previous Guillermo del Toro movies. And then... it came out.

While it was extremely entertaining in places, it also felt like it had been written and edited by someone with no eyes. It also bombed at the box-office and was torn to shreds by critics, and consequently, a sequel is almost certainly not going to happen.

Harbour confirmed as much in a chat with ComicBook.com earlier this year, where he acknowledged the movie's poor reception, and stated that the idea was to "move on" from this iteration of the character:

"I don't think there'll be much of a light [for a sequel]... in the culture at large, I don't think it was very well received. I think the idea is to move on. The producers spoke to me just saying 'Great job,' they really liked what I did, but I haven't heard anything about a sequel, and I'm not hanging my hat on anything like that."

The movie made just $44 million worldwide on a $50 million budget - not factoring in marketing costs - so yeah, this franchise is about as dead as it gets.
