One of the most bizarre sequel prospects that has been floating around Hollywood for the last few decades is Nine To Five 2, the follow-up to the 1980 comedy which starred Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

That original film isn't exactly the kind of thing that gets "sequel-ized" all too often, and the fact that it's coming up on 40 years old means that most people probably don't care about seeing another one anymore. Regardless, Parton and Fonda stated in 2018 that the project was moving forward, and a pair of screenwriters were even attached.

But recently, the movie hit a brick wall - and this time, it looks like it's for good. In October 2019, Parton spoke to Entertainment Tonight and told them that the sequel was dead, citing script problems as the reason why. Then, a few days later, Entertainment Weekly backed up Parton's statement.

Supposedly, the movie would've followed a brand-new trio of working women, with the original three actresses appearing in mentor roles. Maybe the project could get going again in the future, but that doesn't look too likely.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
