9 Movie Sequels That Just Got Cancelled

3. Terminator: Dark Fate 2

Even though it's the best Terminator movie since 1991's Judgement Day, Dark Fate, frustratingly, just hasn't clicked with audiences.

Whether it's franchise fatigue, that opening scene, or something else entirely, we can't know for sure, but one thing that is certain is that any potential sequels now have a pretty dark fate of their own.

The movie is projected to lose upwards of $100 million for the financiers involved, which is nothing short of a disastrous result. Dark Fate was intended to kick-start a brand-new trilogy of films, but in light of the movie's performance, none of these additional entries are likely to happen.

Sources close to Skydance Media (who helped produce Dark Fate) told The Hollywood Reporter that "there are certainly no plans for another film at this point," while numerous industry analysts believe that the Terminator franchise has run its course.

We'll certainly see more Terminator stuff at some point in the future, but whatever form that takes, don't expect it to follow on from the current iteration of the series.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
