9 Movie Sequels That Just Got Cancelled

Considering how hot comic-book adaptations currently are in Hollywood, it's no surprise that a lot of them get put into development - which could mean anything from an idea being thrown around a studio, to an actual script being written - before fizzling out and dying a slow death.

And sure enough, for every DC and Marvel project that is successfully brought to the big screen, several more are lost to the infinite depths of movie hell.

Just this year alone, a Joker and Harley team-up film and a solo Joker film (both with Jared Leto's version of the Joker) "fell by the wayside" according to Forbes, while in the Marvel camp, a Kitty Pryde movie, a Gambit movie, and an X-23 movie - among others - have all been shelved.

Most of the cancelled Marvel sequels are "leftovers" from Fox's era of X-Men movies - projects that Disney inherited when the two companies merged, and decided not to move forward with. You never say never in the superhero business, but even so, there's basically no chance of any of those movies picking up steam once more.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
