Die Hard

The Setup: New York City cop, John McClane flies to L. A. to reconcile with his estranged wife Holly at her company's Christmas party. What Goes Wrong: Little does McClane now that master thief Hans Gruber intends to hijack the building so he and his crew of German mercenaries can get their hands on $640 million worth of bearer bonds. Luckily, McClane manages to evade would-be his captors and proceeds to engage in a game of cat-and-mouse with Gruber and his henchmen. The odds are stacked against McClane but he uses his quick thinking to drop a corpse through the windshield of a cop and get the police and FBI to surround the building. McClane brings the ruckus, literally setting the roof on fire, blowing up a helicopter and leaving a pile dead bodies and one-liners in his wake. The Moral of the Story: McClane teaches Gruber there's more to Christmas than unfettered greed by tossing the super thief of the roof and McClane learns nothing can win back your wife's affection like going on a murder spree to save Christmas.
