9 Movies That Escaped Development Hell

9. Mad Max: Fury Road

Time In Development Hell: 16 Years Fury Road is a miracle for a couple of reasons; that it was made at since it suffered any number of setbacks on the road to cinemas, and that it actually exceeded expectations when it did. The idea came to writer/director George Miller in 1999, and after he put together the story (which stayed more or less the same throughout) he took it to Warner Bros. Mel Gibson returned and it was all set to shoot in 2003 until the outbreak of the Iraq War caused security concerns. The movie was shelved, and Gibson jumped off. Miller then spent years trying to get it going again, and in 2011 things looked hopeful; Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy were cast, cars had been built and a location set; then unexpected rains made the desert he picked look like a jungle, causing more delays. It finally started shooting in 2012 and took another two and a half years to reach cinemas. Worth The Wait?: A million times yes! It was the best action film of 2015, and the best movie in the series.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
