9 Movies That Were Ruined By One Misjudged Scene

2. Makeover - The Breakfast Club

tumblr_lf9ofygblj1qevct6o1_500 Correct me if I'm wrong, but the point of John Hughes' seminal teen classic is "don't worry about what anybody else thinks - just be yourself." For most of the movie, anyway, that mantra stands: that is, until one scene towards the end, where Ally Sheedy's "basket case" character Allison, who we know to be a compulsive liar, is subjected to a makeover - she changes her gothic look for something totally at odds... and then it's OK for Emilio Estevaz's jocky character, Andrew, to hook up with her? Ever since I was a kid I always hated this part: it just doesn't make sense, especially coming from John Hughes, teen angst extraordinaire. I suppose one could argue that this was what Allison was really like and she was hiding behind her goth look, but, nah, that doesn't seem to go with what the rest of the movie is saying. I mean, the girl has a bow in her hair - worst of all, even her personality has transformed. Too far-fetched for my liking, and ultimately detrimental to the movie's effectiveness.
