9 Movies To Watch After You See Jordan Peele's Us
What to watch after Jordan Peele's hit horror...
Us serves as Jordan Peele's second stab at the director's chair. Mere days after the film's release, it already is a huge success both financially and critically. Financially, the film is coming off the back of a rousing $70 million opening.
Critically, the film continues to be praised as a mind-bending horror thriller of epic proportions. The one thing that manages to be more captivating than the film itself is the discourse that it inspired in its viewers. The hidden metaphorical nature of Us has inspired much discussion and debate among audiences that continues to spur long after they have left the theater. Everybody loves a good movie that makes them think and Us is that sort of movie.
Apart from the need to discuss theories with their peers, fans have come out of Us hankering for more. No, not in the form of a sequel, but in hopes of hunting down movies of a similar ilk.
Thankfully, since cinema has been around for the past 130 years, there are plenty of movies out there like Us that fans should enjoy. Premise-wise, Us is a one of a kind beast of its own, but there are plenty of films which either evokes Us in tone or - in some cases - Jordan Peele took direct inspiration from to craft his latest magnum opus.
9. Sisters (1973)
Long before she was Superman's girlfriend, Margot Kidder was Danielle Breton. She was also Dominique Blanchion. 1973's Sisters follows a journalist who sees her next door neighbor, Danielle, murder someone in cold blood.
Upon further investigation, said journalist learned that it wasn't Danielle, but her twin sister Dominique; the two had been separated after being conjoined at birth. Except, upon even further investigation, it was discovered that Dominique died on the operating table. This whole time, Danielle had been killing people under a warped split personality of her dead sister.
Us ends on a similar note with the sudden revelation that Adelaide had actually been Red this whole time. Apart from hitting those similar beats in story, both succeed splendidly as a slash 'n' dash horror slasher and a suspense thriller. Following in the footsteps of Sisters director Brian De Palma, Jordan Peele is slowly becoming a Master of Suspense behind the camera in his own right.
