9 Movies To Watch After You See Jordan Peele's Us

2. The Babadook

While many of us have had fun with The Babadook as a meme, the film itself is no laughing matter and is actually quite terrifying. The story focuses on a widow dealing with the death of her husband while struggling to relate to her son. Meanwhile, the more she deals with her own personal demons, an actual demon begins to plague the house she lives in.

This was another film on that list of "shared universe" films that Jordan Peele gave to his cast before filming Us. Out of all of the films we see on that list, this one probably makes the most sense and parallels Us in storyline more than most films on that list. Both Babadook and Us serve as emotional, horror allegories highlighting a mother's relationship with her strange son.

In The Babadook's case especially, the horror elements take a backseat in favor of the allegorical message which lies at the center of the film and is capped off with a neat, symbolic ending. That being said, that doesn't make the film any less scary and you may want to keep the lights on while watching this one.
