9 Movies You Didn't Realise Are Set In The Same Universe

7. Jackie Brown & Out Of Sight

Elmore Leonard is a Peabody Award-winning novelist whose works have been adapted into dozens of films, including Get Shorty, Jackie Brown, and Out of Sight. The film versions of those latter two share another, deeper connection: Federal agent Ray Nicolette.

In Jackie Brown, Nicolette (played by Michael Keaton) is the central protagonist tasked with taking down Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson), a black market arms dealer. In Out of Sight, Keaton reprises his role for a brief cameo, this time as the arm candy to Jennifer Lopez.

According to Keaton, director Steven Soderbergh asked him to play an FBI-type, but Keaton only agreed to do it so long as he could appear as the exact same character from Jackie Brown. The idea was that if Nicolette could appear in two different movies with two different directors and two different studios at the helm, it would make him feel like "a real guy out there wandering around in life".

And since most of Tarantino's movies also share a universe, that means George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez's characters from Out of Sight could someday bump into Mr. Pink from Reservoir Dogs or Jules from Pulp Fiction.
