9 Movies You Didn't Realise Are Set In The Same Universe

6. Daredevil & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Scream Jay and Silent Bob
20th Century Fox

Any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aficionado, when asked to state one word that sums up the franchise, would probably say "ooze". (Or maybe "pizza". But ooze is definitely in the top two.) The mysterious ooze is what transformed the turtles into mutants, after all, and it was the focal point of the second film in the TMNT franchise.

That exact same ooze is actually what transformed Matt Murdoch into Daredevil in the comic books. In fact, it happens at the exact same time. When Murdoch saves a blind man from being hit by a truck, a radioactive substance flies off the vehicle and gets in Murdoch's eyes, ironically blinding him and paving the way for his superhero-dom. That radioactive substance then proceeded to drip down a sewer drain and onto a group of not-yet-radical turtles.

Even though the overlap isn't recognized in any of the films, the two separate parts of this origin story are played out in Ben Affleck's Daredevil movie and in TMNT 2, thus connecting the film universes.

TMNT features a few other nods to Daredevil, including The Foot clan being an offshoot Daredevil's ninja group The Hand, and Splinter's name being a pun of Daredevil's teacher, Stick...which makes him a "chip off the ol' block", according to the director.
