9 Pointless Political Statements In Otherwise Awesome Movies

3. The U.S. Health Care System Sucks (So You Should Murder The Guy Who Rejected You) - Saw VI

Saw 2 Alright, so by any typical standard, Saw VI is not an otherwise amazing film, but compared to the horrendous two movies that preceded it, it was a downright masterpiece, and pretty much managed to get the franchise back on track for its ludicrous last instalment the next year. Few would expect the Saw movies to get political, but number six had a decent stab at it, with a flashback showing serial killer Jigsaw arguing with his insurance provider about their refusal to pay for his cancer treatment. Jigsaw follows up by rightly calling the doctor out on how insurance companies can essentially hold dying people by the balls, and goes about getting bloody revenge on the claims adjuster who rejected him. Jigsaw ends up putting the guy in a situation near-enough guaranteed to kill him - despite Jigsaw imploring that he has a "choice" - and sure enough, in the end it does. However, given that in the flashback, Jigsaw decries the medical company for taking a life-and-death decision out of his hands, is he not just doing exactly the same thing to this guy? While it's an admirable effort on the part of the writers to actually say something, it mostly leaves an unsavoury taste because Jigsaw is such a criminally insane, murderous douchebag himself.
