Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker performances cast a large shadow, but the biggest shadow of all is that of Jared Leto, whose turn as The Joker became the laughingstock of the current DC Universe series of movies.

The margin for error is sinking beneath Warner Brothers' feet. If Barry Keoghan’s performance is another failure in the eyes of fans, then they are stuck presenting another Joker for a few sequels more that no one cares for.

It is possible that the deleted scene has been released for anyone to see, so Warner Brothers can test the waters and see how people react to Barry Keoghan’s performance. If the reaction is negative, then they can plan ahead. If the reaction is positive, then they can be happy that they won’t change much for the sequels.
