9 Reasons 2016 Will Kill The Comic Book Movie Boom

5. The MCU Formula Isn't For Everyone

The reason, of course, that so many comic book adaptations have already been planned is that everyone wants to ride the gravy train that Marvel put on the tracks a few years ago. The Marvel Cinematic Universe proved that, with the right amount of research and foresight, studios are able to map out their exact destination years in advance. Marvel was breaking new ground with that risky development strategy, but they were also playing the odds and being smart about it. They established the characters that people were most willing to shed out their hard-earned cash to see, and then used those characters to branch out and get the buying public interested in other characters without forcing the issue. Compare that to the DC strategy, which is using one of its most poorly-received characters (Superman) and another that, due to recasting, lost all of the mojo previously associated with the property (Batman) to launch its own self-contained movie universe. One of these is clearly a better way to go about it.
