9 Reasons DC TV Shows Are Better Than The Movies

Man of Steel and Batman v Superman both come off as joyless affairs. There's nothing wrong with having a dark, gritty (now there's a word that's come to have terrible connotations in comic book movies) superhero film, and indeed something more adult is the trend they were following from Chris Nolan's incredible Dark Knight Trilogy. But they hit upon one depressing shade of grey and stuck with it.

Suicide Squad should have changed that, it looked like it would change that, but sadly it didn't. What humour there was forced and fell flat, and the whole thing was just rather dull and dour.

Again, it's a problem the TV series have had: Arrow Seasons 3 & 4 were miserable, and The Flash headed that way last year. For the most part though they've managed to balance the light and the dark well.

Arrow was the darker show, but it was propelled by its action and high stakes, providing thrills and making it exciting to watch. The Flash, Legends, and Supergirl went the other way, full of heart and humour, they were fun, fast, and funny, but also able to take more serious turns when the story required (such as the previous example about Barry's mother). These shows aren't comedies, but you're still likely to get a laugh out of them, and they know how to use levity as and when it's required.
