9 Reasons Doctor Strange Is The Least Anticipated MCU Movie
8. Cumberbatch Hype Is Waning
When he was cast it was nothing short of a coup for Marvel getting Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange. He was flying high in Sherlock, had a dominating presence in the then not-fully-ruined The Hobbit Trilogy and was a frontrunner in the Oscar race for The Imitation Game. The Cumberbitches were one of the biggest force in celebrity, and Marvel had their God on contract.
Now, almost two years on, things are a bit different. Cumberbatch hasn't exactly fallen from grace - even if he was repeating Sherlock for Alan Turing and the Victorian Holmes special was dud, there's no discrediting his acting abilities - but the extreme hype has certainly waned, with few outside of the Tumblr crowd wanting to compare him to otters.
So while in 2014 simply having Benny (has anyone ever called him that before?) on the poster would guarantee a smash hit, now it gets lost amongst the rabble; just a month after Doctor Strange we have fellow prim-and-proper Brit Eddie Redmayne (who beat out Cumberbatch to the Oscar) fronting Fantastic Beats And Where To Find Them. This doesn't speak at all about how good he'll be in the film, but is a flaw in Marvel's long-term hype plan.
