9 Reasons Doctor Strange Is The Least Anticipated MCU Movie
7. It's An Anti-Climax For 2016
It's fair to say 2016 hasn't been a banner year for superheroes. Despite six films (down from seven after Gambit's indefinite push-back), only two so far have been noteworthy; Deadpool was a surprise smash and Captain America: Civil War become one of many jewels in the MCU's crown, but both DC flicks and X-Men: Apocalypse were lumbering, butchered duds that while making the GDP of a small company weren't exactly resounding successes.
However, even with that critical and financial failure, Doctor Strange is still an odd fit to finish the year on. Civil War, Batman V Superman and Apocalypse were all gigantic events, epic concepts that pitted hero against hero and culminated in a world-ending threat (not so much in the superior Captain America 3's case, but you get the point).
While Strange will have a big finale that risks not just Earth, but all of reality, it's simply not a movie with the same established scale or emotional stakes that we've been overwhelmed with, and while a change of pace is nice, this one doesn't quite offer that like Deadpool (or how Suicide Squad tried). Put simply, it's a pretty random end to 2016.
