9 Reasons Fantastic Four Is A Fantastic Fail

7. Oddly Short Runtime

Fantastic Fail

The Fantastic Four movie clocked in barely over ninety minutes (without credits). Maybe this is because of the reshoots and rewrites, but as a result it feels like there's a whole lot of stuff missing.

Today's film audiences have gotten used to longer runtimes, so why was this movie cut so short? There was so much to explore in this movie. Why is Dr. Storm going to high school science fairs? Why can't they find a better way to bring Ben into the lab? Why don't we see anything of Doom in the other dimension during that long period when he's thought dead?

Things are zipped through so quickly that we never get a chance to really know the characters, or figure out what the story of the film is. The film could have easily done with another twenty minutes of tighter plotting to bring things full-circle. We could have figured out what exactly the government and Tim Blake Nelson's character wanted from the alternate dimension, why Doom felt the need to destroy the world, what Reed's goals actually were, and maybe create at least some connection between the characters.

But then again, given how awful and drawn-out those ninety minutes felt, maybe a short runtime was a blessing in disguise.
