9 Reasons Fantastic Four Is A Fantastic Fail
6. The Ultimate Origin
One of the earliest signs that this film was off to a bad start was the reveal that Fox was using the origin story from Ultimate Fantastic Four as the basis of the script.
This was a huge mistake. From turning everyone into a teenager to giving Doom the real name of Victor Van Damme and making it so that the accident that created the Fantastic Four also gave Doom his armour, Ultimate Fantastic Four's origin got nearly everything wrong about the group.
Turning the FF into teenagers ruins the family dynamic between them. Reed should already be a brilliant scientist with several degrees by the time he creates this experiment. He doesn't need a mentor in the form of Dr. Storm.
And having the team gain their powers from traveling to another dimension instead of going into space just detracts from that whole old school sci-fi feel that the FF should have. Yes, it's no longer about beating the Soviets in the space race like it was in 1961, but space exploration is still something that interests people.
The original origin from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby is very simple and also quite perfect. There's no need to change it.
