9 Reasons Fantastic Four Is A Fantastic Fail

2. No Family Dynamic

The most important thing about the Fantastic Four is that they're not a team in the traditional sense; they are first and foremost a family. Obviously Reed and Sue are married and Sue and Johnny are siblings. But Reed and Ben are also like brothers themselves, having served together in the military. And then there's Johnny and Ben's sibling-like rivalry.

This was all completely absent in the film. There was maybe one brief moment when Sue and Johnny actually acted like they were siblings. Reed and Ben didn't have any sort of brotherly bond and instead it felt more like Reed just kept Ben around because he was useful, while there was zero chemistry between Reed and Sue.

And screwing up the Johnny/Ben relationship was just criminal. Aside from a moment at the end of the film, these two had no relationship whatsoever. You know there's something wrong when Johnny has more playful banter with Doctor freaking Doom than with the Ever-Lovin' Blue-Eyed Thing.

The family dynamic was one of the few good points about Story's Fantastic Four films. Even with script problems, you got the sense that these people really cared for each other. The characters in Trank's film either felt like they couldn't care less about each other or actively hated each other. This isn't a family. This isn't even a group of friends or associates.
