9 Reasons Why Justice League Is Now Officially The Lowest-Grossing DCEU Film
6. The Flash Conundrum
This issue spans back to the original casting and conception of the film but it is one that continued to plague the production and played a part in the film's diminished returns.
With DC's television programs on CW, fans already had a beloved and faithful adaptation of Barry Allen as the Flash. Grant Gustin as Barry became a fan-favorite choice as the TV show took off, but Snyder and co. made it clear that the TV show would not cross paths with their film version.
Which is a smart move, connecting the two would risk some casual fans being turned off by the notion that they would have to watch the TV show to keep up with the movies. But, making this choice also painted them into a corner. They couldn't just do the same take of Barry Allen that the show was doing for fear of coming off as pale in comparison, but they also couldn't deviate too much from it for fear of losing the essence of the character altogether.
The end result is Ezra Miller's Flash, a compromised version of the character who doesn't feel at home in the movie and wouldn't feel at home in the show.
