8. Umbrae Running To Meet Zora At The Car
As we learn through clever exposition early in the film, Zora is a talented Track & Field athlete who’s grown tired of the sport. Her tethered must be a talented runner as well, because when Red begins to play Funny Games-esque tricks with the family, she demands Zora run and Umbrae follow.
Zora is quite literally running for her life. We don’t see Umbrae chasing her, but we know deep down she is and can’t be too far away. As the daughter halts to catch her breath, we see an out of focus woman in red whip by her in the forest. Umbrae reveals herself and what follows is a cat and mouse chase around a suburban SUV.
When the owner of the vehicle makes his way to the scene and is understandably irritated at the horseplay on his car, we finally see just how fatal this night will become. Zora runs just before the viewer witnesses Umbrae stab the vulnerable man in cold blood. We see Umbrae when Zora cannot, but no matter how desperately the audience wants to warn her, they can’t.
