5. A Family That Stands Together

The iconic shot from the trailer still played as one of the biggest scares in the theatre. There’s nothing to make you jump or creepy score to emphasize, just a family of four standing motionless, holding hands, in the driveway of four unsuspecting victims. Though the trailers revealed the quartet to be the doppelgängers of the family they’re terrorizing, it’s dark enough that those in the film are still baffled.

The shot is a terrifying visual but eclipsed by the thought of it in theory. Winston Duke’s questioning, “You guys are afraid of a family?” is as funny as it is accurate; families are not the pinnacle of danger. When they don’t balk at your threats of police coming or baseball bat wielding, the idea of a family not being intimidating go out the window.

If you talk in a theatre I'm in, be prepared to get some pretty passive aggressive stares.
