9 Scariest Moments From Jordan Peele's Us

2. The Swap

The actual swap isn’t as scary as the implications of the act. (This is going to get confusing for a minute) Adelaide was in the underground where her and Red met at the hall of mirrors; Adelaide choked Red (hence Red’s speech impediment) and trapped her in the tethered’s world as she went and assumed Red’s life.

Adelaide was born into a world, for no reason other than chance, and had to live a hellish existence as Red enjoyed every pleasure the world had to offer. In what is seeming to be more and more like an allegory of class divide, Adelaide decided it not fair Red should thrive as she withers, thus taking the matter into her own hands.

Forcing someone into a world of despair and brutality is an awful act but living in one yourself is equally unappealing. What Adelaide did was wicked in every definition of the word, but who’s to say you wouldn’t do the same for a better life?

If you talk in a theatre I'm in, be prepared to get some pretty passive aggressive stares.
