The Planet of the Apes is one of the longest running sci-fi franchises in cinema, and while there have been a few installments of less than impressive quality, there's always an entertaining man-versus-ape story to explore.

As a franchise built around the idea of super-intelligent apes becoming the predominant species on the planet, there are a number of characters of both species that have understandable motives, even if most of them revolve around the extermination of the other side of their ongoing war.

One such character is Koba, an apparently treacherous evolved Bonobo who turns against the Apes' leader, Caesar.

Koba has a strong distrust of humans, stemming from the repeated abuse he suffered while in captivity, and as a result he does not believe that humans and apes can ever live in peace.

While many of his actions are less than noble, his theory about humans and apes proves time and again to be true. It's not hard to see that if Koba had been born just a few decades later, he would have been a celebrated hero, instead of a villain.
