9 Simple Fixes That Would Have Saved Avengers: Age Of Ultron

6. Let Whedon Be Whedon

This partially ties-in with the previous entry, as there's no doubt that so much of that setup in the movie was at the behest of Marvel chief Kevin Fiege, who oversees all of the MCU and its interconnectivity. The first Avengers movie was quite obviously a Marvel production, but more importantly it really felt like you were watching something Joss Whedon had created. Fast-forward three-years, and those Whedonesque elements are still present, but they're a lot less prominent. The director has spoken post-release of disagreements with the studio, and things he wasn't happy with, and that plays out in the finished product. Whedon is a magnificent creator, at his best when he's running the show, as evidenced in series like Buffy, Angel, and Firefly; he isn't just some hired gun to follow the studio blueprint. This isn't the only case of behind-the-scenes agro on a Marvel film - Edgar Wright departed Ant-Man and, while the true reason hasn't been revealed, it seems there were disagreements between him and the studio over the direction of the film, and its ties to the MCU. Although Ant-Man was an entertaining film, we never got to see Wright's full vision realised, and it seems with Age of Ultron, we didn't get to see Whedon's.
