9 Subtle MCU Gags You Definitely Didn't Notice

5. Dr. Donald Blake - Thor

Avengers Age Of Ultron Robert Downey Jr
Marvel Comics

While stranded on Earth in his first movie, Thor went by the alias of Dr. Donald Blake. Jane gives him a shirt with that name on it, before quickly removing the label and saying that Blake was her ex.

The name Dr. Donald Blake carries some weight in the Thor mythos. The original Thor comics, starting with 1962's Journey Into Mystery #83, actually had Don Blake as Thor's secret identity. Blake was a doctor who walked with a limp, who, on a trip to Norway, stumbled upon a cave where he found Mjolnir. Being a doctor who saved many lives, he was deemed worthy, transforming himself into Thor whenever he lifted it.

The MCU, which has steered clear of secret identities ever since Tony Stark's immortal "I am Iron Man" speech from the first Iron Man, chose to go a different route for Thor, foregoing a secret identity for the God of Thunder beyond "Thor." However, seeing Thor pose as Don Blake, even for just a few minutes, was as close as we were ever going to get to seeing his original secret identitiy on screen.
