9 Suffering Film Franchises That Need The Old Yeller Treatment

5. Pirates of The Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean In 2003 Johnny Depp proved that a little mascara can go along way in creating an indelible cinematic icon: Captain Jack Sparrow. Depp's drunken Keith Richard impersonation won audiences over worldwide and turned what could have been a box office disaster (a film based on a theme park ride) into a massive hit. Disney wanted to milk the film's break out character before audiences soured on Sparrows slurred, mincing antics and two sequels followed that stretched the already thin source material into hours-long maelstroms of incomprehensible plot points, beaded hair and tomfoolery. The moviegoing public greeted the fourth installment in the series with a comparatively tepid box office. The fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie opens in 2015 but Disney should do the world a favour and force Depp, along with his stale routine, to take a long walk off a short plank.
