8. Jimmy & Brett - Storm Warning (2007)
Rob, a lawyer and his French wife Pia go out fishing at sea but get lost when they try to return. Rob steers them into swampland and a storm is threatening to erupt so they get out of the boat, walk around and come across a dilapidated house which happens to be inhabited by crazed rednecks. Jimmy and Brett are two hillbilly brothers who are out to torture, rape and murder. It may be a hackneyed storyline but it is a pretty effective little horror film which is well staged and explicit. Not Saw style explicit, it has just enough gore to satisfy and it uses it to good effect. Reminiscent of Straw Dogs and I Spit on Your Grave, the film goes from hillbillies biffing up and insulting the couple - breaking Robs knee and obviously intending to have their wicked way with Pia - to the couple fighting back - especially Pia who sets up a nasty surprise for her potential rapist which is horrific to watch. Jimmy and Brett are Australian rednecks, but they act just like rednecks around the world - they are filthy and grimy, they speak profanely, they are always armed and they are delighted to see Yuppies come their way. Fun redneck entertainment from Australia.
