9 Things To Expect From Lord And Miller's Star Wars Han Solo Movie

3. Romance As An Afterthought

Every modern blockbuster must - by some higher law dictated by the movie gods - contain some kind of romantic subplot. And so far, Lord and Miller have catered to this unwritten dictum by including some form of love story in all of their films.

Which isn't to say that the directors seem to have much interest in their romantic subplots at all. In all their movies to date, the romance has been often pretty forgettable; in the Jump Street films, the relationship everyone remembers is the one between Schmidt and Jenko, while the courtship between Emmet and Wyldstyle in The Lego Movie feels contractually obligated rather than something its makers were actually passionate about.

Expect the Han Solo movie, then, to keep the focus on guy things - fighting, sparring, chilling with the Wookiee - and treat whatever prospective romance there is as an afterthought. No one could tie Han Solo down until Leia came along, so it wouldn't be surprising if Lord and Miller eschew any romance altogether.
