9 Times Actors Famously Expressed Their Dissatisfaction

6. Chevy Chase - European Vacation

Eddie Murphy Beverly Hills Cops III
Warner Bros.

Chevy Chase has something of a reputation for being... difficult. That's a nice way of saying all the stories about him acting unbearable, racist and homophobic have reached such a crescendo of terrible that it's becoming difficult even to enjoy Fletch without feeling a little dirty.

After National Lampoon's Vacation proved to be a successful formula, and a sequel was ordered. But there is some debate about whether or not European Vacation is a sequel, given that the Griswolds are actually spelled "Griswald", but that's just an easy out for those that didn't like the film.

You can probably count Chevy Chase in that boat, though he still tries to hide it. His commentary track is filled with mild anecdotes and a vaguely cheery facade, but it fades over time. It's not that he outright hates European Vacation, in fact, toward the end, he comes to terms with what be imagines was a decades-long struggle. Or he just shot it while high and wrote it off, like most comics did in the early '80s.

He all but confirms this sentiment with a resigned, "I thought this movie... stank. It's... not that bad."

You know you've dug yourself a whole when you're searching for alternatives to "middling."
