9 Times Actors Famously Expressed Their Dissatisfaction

5. Robert Pattison - Twilight

This entry is not going to go as imagined. The quote, from Robert Pattison, is fairly legendary. The zeitgeist that occurred around the Twilight novels and their film adaptations is well documented and researched. However, it's no different from any other pop culture craze that engulfed a majority of teen girls at a certain time. And it's hype and the lunacy that grew surrounding Twilight was really no different than that of the next iPhone, the new George R.R. Martin or the new Star Wars thing.

Is it at all possible that much of the rancor directed at author Stephanie Meyer and her fans might be that it was playing in the horror genre, something that at the time was densely male-populated?

Yes and no. While it's true that some of the attacks were pretty clearly more directed at a gender than a product, it doesn't erase the cardinal sin of sparkling vampires, or that Meyer openly admitted to never reading Dracula, but that it was "on the list" - both valid criticisms.

But with that hindsight in mind, Pattinson's quote comes across as a little suspect.

“I was just convinced that this woman is mad, she’s completely mad, and she’s in love with her own fictional creation," he said, and has really made a point to go out of his way to criticize it.

Not that Twilight is good by any means, but how many Star Wars fans are plotting my murder now?

Kenny Hedges is carbon-based. So I suppose a simple top 5 in no order will do: Halloween, Crimes and Misdemeanors, L.A. Confidential, Billy Liar, Blow Out He has his own website - thefilmreal.com - and is always looking for new writers with differing views to broaden the discussion.
