9 Underrated Kid's Movies You Didn't Realise Were Awesome

1. Gnomeo And Juliet (2011)

A retelling of the classic story of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, only with garden gnomes in England. Rotten TomatoesRating: 55% Why It's Actually Awesome: Gnomeo and Juliet takes one of the most famous works of classic literature, and adds lawn gnomes to it. There's no telling how someone actually was able to get this premise made into a movie, but thank the good Bard that they did. It's as stuffed full of witty dialogue and rapid-fire humor as the best of Shakespeare's work, and is set, tongue-in-cheek, in Stratford-upon-Avon, where the titular hero Gnomeo actually has a conversation with the statue of Shakespeare located in the town. Gnomeo and Juliet also features a star-studded cast, with voices provided by James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant, and Ozzy Osbourne, among a host of others. The soundtrack also heavily features Elton John, as well as having songs by Nelly Furtado, Kiki Dee, and Lady Gaga. It takes the tragic, frustrating tale of Romeo and Juliet and makes it gut-bustingly funny, with the happy ending we all secretly dream of. Gnomeo and Juliet is one of the best movies of the last five years, no matter what the critics say.
