9 Upcoming Movie Passion Projects You Aren't Ready For

Denis Villeneuve has been working on his passion project - what he calls "Star Wars for adults" - since 2016, and has had a screenwriter in place for almost as long. He's now got his principle cast in place and it seems that the project - which looked more like something he really wanted to make rather than something that would be made - is genuinely happening.

Here's how he talks about it:

“Most of the main ideas of Star Wars are coming from Dune so it’s going to be a challenge to [tackle] this. The ambition is to do the Star Wars movie I never saw. In a way, it’s Star Wars for adults. We’ll see.”

What we can all guarantee is that it'll look incredible, given the director's eye for beautiful shots and the way he likes to set his films' visuals up. Let's hope that his desire to make a Star Wars stand-alone doesn't mean he'll turn Dune into one in all but name, because that would be a disservice to the source material.

No matter what the approach, it's going to be one of the most exciting sci-fi projects of the next few years.
