9 Upcoming Movie Passion Projects You Aren't Ready For
7. Honey Boy
The idea of actors making movies about their own lives sounds too odd and too self-indulgent to ever get past the initial pitching stage, but Shia Labeouf has managed to get the deeply personal passion project Honey Boy off the ground.
In it, he will play his own father in a story based on his own life (the title is his own childhood nickname) and while there will inevitably be some sneering at the premise and the presence of Labeouf in that role, it actually sounds very compelling. Fundamentally, it's the story of a child star attempting to mend his relationship with his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father over the course of a decade and there's certainly a story there to be told.
And not only that, but Labeouf is genuinely a talented actor whose talent is often misjudged through the filter of other behaviour or choices. This is the sort of story he should be invested in enough to really shine.
