9 Upcoming 2014 Movies That Are Most Likely To Catch Us By Surprise

5. Whiplash

The U.S. Grand Jury Prize Award winners at Sundance have met mixed successes in recent years, with some garnering major Oscar nominations and some all but fading into obscurity. As such, it€™s safe to assume regardless of which fate befalls this year€™s recipient, Damien Chazelle€™s Whiplash, we€™ll be surprised by the result, though early word has it that this could very well be a winner. Miles Teller has been picking up steam over the past couple of years and his role here as an aspiring jazz drummer could propel him into an even higher level of stardom, especially if the film becomes a cross-over hit. And once the Fantastic Four reboot hits theaters next year, many will point to Whiplash in a knew-him-when way. Whether the film finds its audience late in the game this year or even years down the road, many will mark it as a watershed moment for Teller€™s career and the announcement of a new director to watch in Chazelle.
