9 Upcoming Movies That Are Unofficial Remakes
1. Murder Mystery = Once Upon A Crime...
Later this spring Adam Sandler's latest "comedy" vehicle is set to land on Netflix, co-starring himself and Jennifer Aniston as a couple who, after heading on vacation to Europe, find themselves suspected of murder when an elderly billionaire dies in their company.
It's a premise that immediately brings to mind the 1992 crime-comedy farce Once Upon a Crime... - starring Richard Lewis, John Candy, James Belushi, Cybill Shepherd, Sean Young and Ornella Muti - where a series of American couples similarly end up in Europe and find themselves suspected of killing a wealthy old woman.
This is especially amusing as Once Upon a Crime... is itself a remake - albeit a legitimate, official one - of the 1960 Italian crime comedy Crimen.
Given the remake's disastrous box office and predominantly negative reviews - not to mention a Worst Actress Razzie nomination for Young - Sandler's new take won't leave many complaining that it's shamelessly ripping off a classic.
But as low a critical bar as he has to clear here, this is an Adam Sandler Netflix Original after all, so there are no guarantees.
