9 Ways The Batman V Superman Trailer Proves The Movie Will Suck

3. Cheesy, Faux-Cool Dialogue

A trailer needs a great money shot. And Batman V Superman gets so close to pulling it off "Do you bleed?" growls Batman at Superman at the trailer's finale (anybody think in the biggest twist of irony Affleck's going to be the only good thing in this?). Quite how Supes hears this deep voice over the pouring rain and lightening isn't quite clear (has he developed super hearing?), but it's a pretty nice moment in isolation. Sure, it's very much in the vein of Snyder's usual "try so hard to be cool" approach that appeals to teenage boys, but played as the big climax of a trailer means it works. And then he goes and follows it up with an over-ridingly cheesy "You will." Suddenly this goes from a hyper-stylised grudge match to a brawl all about the bitching outside of the ring. When people say this is a longstanding playground debate doesn't mean the film needs to use dialogue a kid would use when role-playing Batman. This could have been the trailer's winning move, ending before any kryptonite sparks fly leaving the audience wanting more and the line teasing real conflict. Instead it's a sudden halt that makes you think you've stepped back into the world of Joel Schumacher.
