9 Worst Accidents That Keep Happening On The Sets Of Hollywood Movies

3. Shaken, Stirred, Drowned, Burned, Broken, Bruised And Choked

With the upcoming Spectre, the world will have seen 24 official Bond movies hit the big screen - 26, if you include the original Casino Royale and the Thunderball remake Never Say Never again, which most people don€™t. Now, considering that this marks 53 years of nearly constant movie-making, you€™d think that there would have been a whole lot of accidents on-set€ and you€™d be right. Both Harold Sakata (Oddjob) and Sean Connery were hurt during the filming of their big fight scene in Goldfinger (1964): Sakata was burned on the hand during the electrocution sequence, while Connery hurt his back. Scuttlebutt (like gossip playing hardball) has it that Connery leveraged the minor injury into improving his deal for the following film. George Lazenby, on the other hand, was anxious to perform as many of his own stunts as possible: this resulted in him breaking his arm while filming On Her Majesty€™s Secret Service (1969). Bond girl Lana Wood €“ aka €˜Plenty O€™Toole€™ in Diamonds Are Forever (1971) €“ genuinely nearly drowned when filming the drowning scene. Her feet were loosely tied to that heavy block, which gradually inched its way further into the deep end with every take, so that eventually she couldn€™t get her head above water. Roger Moore bruised his face on the set of Moonraker (1979) after having intense bursts of air pumped onto it while filming the scene where the gravity simulator spins out of control. For Your Eyes Only (1981) saw a bobsled race go wrong and a stuntman die, while two other stuntmen hurt themselves on the coral reef, and supporting actor Topol was injured when hit with flying debris during filming of the action set piece at the docks. Halle Berry half blinded herself with a smoke grenade, and nearly choked on a fig during the love scene in Die Another Day (2002) €“ not both at the same time, you€™ll be pleased to hear. Daniel Craig had two teeth knocked out in the first fight scene he ever filmed for Casino Royale (2007), and sprained his knee working on Spectre (2015). The latest Bond movie also saw second unit assistance director Terry Madden (a veteran of Bond films since 1981) fracture his leg multiple times when a camera truck crashed off road. There are many more stories involving accidents befalling stunt actors - far more than can be detailed here.
