9 Worst Accidents That Keep Happening On The Sets Of Hollywood Movies

2. How Is Jackie Chan Still Breathing?

Veteran action star Jackie Chan has performed stunts in 71 of his movies€ and been injured in 19 of them. That€™s nearly a third. Is that an impressive statistic or precisely the opposite? Tough call to make. In Hand of Death (1976), Chan was completely knocked out after botching one of the major stunts €“ which is effectively a kind of brain damage. Lovely €“ and two years later, he€™d almost lose an eye when injuring himself during a fight scene in the seminal Drunken Master. That same year, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (1978) saw co-star Hwang Jang Lee kick out one of his teeth, and Chan also found himself cut by a prop sword that was supposed to have been blunted. Chan nearly suffocated after hurting his throat while filming The Young Master (1980), and badly hurt his chin on Dragon Lord (1982), making it very difficult to talk€ this was problematic, as he had additional lines to get out in the scenes and was also directing the film. Project A (1983) featured a notorious fall from a clock tower that caused him to injure his neck yet again. Chan suffered nasty burn on his hands sliding down a pole in Police Story (1985), and nearly broke his back and dislocated his pelvis. He broke his hand on The Protector the same year. It would be Armour of God in 1986 that would see one of Chan€™s worst ever on-set injuries €“ he fell fifteen feet to the ground during a stunt, hitting his head and cracking his skull. A fragment lodged itself in his brain, leading to a permanent hole and some hearing loss. The sequel in 1991 saw him only dislocate his sternum in a fall. You probably didn€™t even know you could dislocate your sternum€ or your cheekbone, which is what happened to Chan in an accident on Police Story 3: Super Cop in 1992. On more familiar territory, Chan dislocated his shoulder on City Hunter (1993) and crushed his legs between two cars on Crime Story (1993). Rumble in the Bronx (1995) saw him break his foot €“ for the remainder of the shoot, he was wearing a cast with a sock painted to look like his left shoe. He hurt his neck yet again on Mr. Nice Guy (1997) after botching a flip. This list is hardly exhaustive either, and there€™s probably more, and a few more after that. The man must be held together by pegs and hope by now.
