A Bad Moms Christmas Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs
A lazy sequel for the holidays.
Halloween is over and holiday movie season is officially underway with A Bad Moms Christmas, the not-so-anticipated follow-up to last summer's smash-hit R-rated comedy Bad Moms, which grossed an insane $180+ million against its slender $20 million budget.
Well, everyone's back for another go-around, and as expected, the law of diminishing returns is in full effect with a sequel that's not without its hilarious moments, but for the most part functions as a grab-bag of Christmas movie cliches, albeit with a more adult flavouring than usual.
Still, it's hardly an R-rated holiday classic like, say, The Night Before, and your enjoyment will largely depend on how much you liked the original as well as your own fondness for these actresses, especially the older ladies joining the cast in grandmother roles (Cheryl Hines, Susan Sarandon and Christine Baranski).
It's tough to be too harsh on such an undemanding movie, especially as there are so few R-rated comedies aimed largely at women, but all things considered, all involved are capable of much, much better. It's harmless, and certainly not boring, but you'll sure wish it was funnier...
