A Good Day To Die Hard: 10 Reasons It Sucks

2. Too Much CGI

I knew this would be a complaint about the film from the second I saw the trailer; though like in John Moore's Max Payne the visuals are often elaborate and impressive - the CGI shot of the McClanes diving out of a window while the copter explodes is surely the film's money shot - some of the green screen work throughout is absolutely terrible. The most egregious instance of this is as McClane is clinging to the tail of Irina's helicopter, swinging around in a garish blur, before being lobbed through a glass window in death-defying style. Even the fourth film managed to achieve an impressive balance between CGI (for the ridiculous jet-based set piece) and practical effects, such as actually driving a car into a helicopter at full speed. Though this film does feature its share of organic stuntwork too, it's the cheap looking visuals that really stick in the mind.
